The Music Teachers' Association of Queensland, founded in 1921, is a
professional body representing almost 1,000 members throughout Queensland. Amongst many other things, it aims to promote a high standard of music teaching in the state. The Association enjoys a
close liaison with examination bodies, tertiary institutions and other similar Associations both nationally and internationally. Constantly endeavouring to elevate the professionalism of the
Association and its Members, MTAQ provides opportunities for ongoing professional development and a platform for teacher development through master classes, pre-diploma performances and showcase
recitals. Major events such as the Queensland Piano Competition and Queensland Vocal Competition occur annually, as well as the Alan Lane Memorial Professional Development Weekend.
